Three years ago, media outlets around the world reported on a large-scale romance scam case in the UK, where Sharon Bulmer, who lived in Manchester, was defrauded of more than €93,000 over two and a half years. The scammers used photos of then-Latvian Defence Minister Artis Pabriks, making the 51-year-old woman believe she was in contact with an American soldier named Murphy Townsends. Pabriks’ photos are still being used in scams.
