“Will the War End Soon? Diplomatic Talks on Ukraine, Iran, and Global Tariffs Gain Momentum”

The Russia–Ukraine conflict remains a central topic on the global stage, particularly as Russia continues its strikes on Ukrainian cities, resulting in civilian casualties. Negotiations have proven more complicated than initially expected — even for the leadership of the White House, which had envisioned a more straightforward path toward diplomatic resolution.

However, international negotiations are not limited to this conflict alone. Middle Eastern affairs, especially Iran-related developments, are also on the global agenda. Recent reports suggest the potential transfer of uranium to a third party — specifically, to Russia. This refers to ongoing discussions around nuclear non-proliferation and Iran’s cooperation with external actors like Russia in managing its nuclear program within broader international frameworks.

Nonetheless, Iran is not expected to accept this proposal. Experts believe that Tehran may strategically use the topic to its advantage, creating the illusion of diplomatic engagement and progress to reduce international pressure. With an economy severely impacted by sanctions, Iran has a strong interest in securing relief. In this regard, the position of European leaders and their consultations with Tehran will be crucial.

A key development in transatlantic relations is Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s visit to Washington. She is the first European leader to visit the U.S. following Donald Trump’s re-election and is known for her close relationship with Trump. Meloni is expected to bridge key trade and tariff policy issues between Europe and the United States.

These pressing international issues — from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and Iran’s nuclear maneuvering to the shifting dynamics of U.S.–EU diplomacy in the Trump era — were the focus of the latest episode of the political talk show “The World as It Is,” hosted by analyst and commentator Buka Petriashvili.
